Why Different Wavelengths?
Red light therapy (RLT) utilizes specific wavelengths of light to produce various beneficial effects on the body. Different wavelengths of light interact with cells differently and may have different therapeutic applications.
Ideally, RLT should employ a combination of different wavelengths to optimize its therapeutic potential. This is because different wavelengths penetrate the skin to varying depths and interact with different cellular components.
For instance, shorter wavelengths, such as red light (RL), penetrate the skin to a moderate depth and primarily target mitochondria, the cellular powerhouses responsible for energy production. Longer wavelengths, such as near-infrared light (NIR), penetrate deeper into the skin and reach cells involved in collagen production, tissue and bone repair, and inflammation modulation.
The effectiveness of different wavelengths in RLT has been studied extensively. Research suggests that red and near-infrared light, specifically in the 630 - 940 nm range, demonstrate the most promising therapeutic benefits. This wavelength range is well-absorbed by skin cells and triggers various cellular processes that promote healing, reduce pain, and enhance overall health.

AURORA's RLT Pods are able to emit 5 of the most effective wavelengths: 630nm, 660nm, 810nm, 850nm and 940nm.
Depth of penetration
630 nm......................5-10mm
660nm.......................5-12mm
810nm.....................10-20mm
850nm.....................10-25mm
940nm.....................15-30mm
630 nm
Skin Rejuvenation
Red light at 630nm is particularly effective for improving skin health. It stimulates fibroblasts, which are responsible for producing collagen, a protein that gives skin its firmness and elasticity. This can lead to reduced wrinkles, improved skin texture, and a more youthful appearance.

Wound Healing
Red light at 630nm can accelerate the healing of wounds, cuts, and minor injuries by increasing blood flow to the affected area, reducing inflammation, and promoting the production of new, healthy tissue.
660 nm
Pain Relief
Red light at 660nm has analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. It helps reduce pain by decreasing inflammation and increasing circulation to the injured or painful area. This makes it useful for conditions like arthritis, muscle strains, and joint pain.
Muscle Recovery
Athletes and fitness enthusiasts often use red light therapy at 660nm to speed up muscle recovery, reduce muscle soreness, and enhance overall muscle performance.
810 nm
Deep Tissue Penetration
Near-infrared light at 810nm can penetrate deeper into the body than red light, reaching muscles, joints, and even bones. This makes it suitable for treating conditions that affect deep tissues.
Enhanced Cellular Function
810nm near-infrared light improves mitochondrial function within cells, leading to increased energy production and overall cellular health.
Anti-Inflammatory
It has strong anti-inflammatory effects, making it beneficial for chronic inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and muscle inflammation.
850 nm
Brain Health
Near-infrared light at 850nm is used for cognitive enhancement. It may improve brain function, memory, and mental clarity. Some research suggests it can even have potential benefits in conditions like Alzheimer's disease.
Pain Management
850nm light therapy is effective for managing various forms of pain, including neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and headaches, by reducing inflammation and stimulating tissue repair.
Improved Athletic Performance
Athletes use 850nm light therapy to enhance muscle performance and speed up recovery after intense training or injuries.
940 nm
Deeper Tissue Healing
Near-infrared light at 940nm penetrates even deeper into the body, making it suitable for addressing conditions that affect deep-seated tissues and organs.
Joint Health
It is commonly used to promote joint health and alleviate pain associated with conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Circulation Enhancement
940nm light therapy improves blood circulation, which can enhance the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to tissues, supporting the healing process and reducing inflammation.
Science. Not magic.
Red Light Therapy has been studied in hundreds of human trials and several thousand lab studies.
